Hi, I’m Jessie!
I was born with an invisible disability that made things pretty challenging growing up, especially at school, where certain areas of my brain made things harder. But acting and drama were my escape. Playing games, being part of a team and simply having fun gave me freedom and joy. It helped me connect deeply with myself, and others - it was my happy place.
As I got older, I thought professional acting would be the same, but it wasn’t. The industry was super competitive, financially tough, and it left me feeling lost and disconnected from the playful side of myself that I’d loved so much. Life became a bit lifeless, and so did I!
Then one day, feeling so lost in myself, I discovered yoga and it completely changed my life. Moving and breathing with intention gave me the same kind of thrill I used to feel on stage. It became my new way to “act” After training as a yoga teacher in India and taking loads of extra courses since then, I left my corporate job in 2020 and jumped headfirst into teaching yoga full-time.
Over time, my classes became something a bit different from the standard yoga class. I found myself working with everyone - from four-year-olds who needed a confidence boost to 90-year-olds living with dementia - and people kept telling me, “this isn’t like a normal yoga class - but I love it and it really works!” They were right. Without even realising it at first, I’d been blending everything I loved about acting - creativity through drama exercisers, connection, and, at the heart of it all, joy - with the grounding, breathwork and movement of yoga.
That’s when it clicked. I wasn’t just teaching yoga; I was creating something totally unique. It wasn’t about following a script or sticking to a traditional yoga class format - it was about giving people a space to laugh, move, and feel free to be themselves. And perhaps most importantly, to have fun for the sake of having fun!
And that’s how The Happy Movement was born. It’s my way of helping others rediscover the play and joy they were born with - just like I did. Whether it’s through yoga, drama, or a mix of both, I want to help you tap into your playful, authentic self.
